Grab some lunch at the local cafe before saying goodbye to civilization and heading into the highlands. The route through the highlands is a remote road that passes by Mt. Hekla. Often shrouded in cloud, this volcano was once believed to be the entrance to hell by early Icelanders. The road gets progressively more rocky as it climbs up to Landmannalaugar, the campsite for the night. At Landmannalaugar, there are hot springs and bathroom facilities to make the camping experience more comfortable.
